Suspect Identified In Hatchet Assault Case, No Arrests Made

A suspect has been identified in an assault case involving a hatchet near the Oak Point area of Leech Lake Saturday.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says investigators made contact with the suspect, the victim, a 52-year-old Cass Lake man and witnesses of the incident.

The suspect has not been arrested and formal charges may be pending with the Cass County Attorney’s Office, the sheriff’s office says.

Authorities say the public is not in any danger.

Officers responded to the incident at 12:58 a.m. Saturday and found an adult male victim had been assaulted with a hatchet. The victim was transported to Sanford Bemidji for his injuries.

The investigation continues.
