Sick Leave Awarded to Federal Contract Employees

Paid sick leave is now available for federal contractor employees as of Thursday.  According to U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez, more than 1.1M workers will be affected by this rule.

Employees can have up to 7 sick days of earned leave.  The ruling will help keep sick workers at home and keep turnover rates down.

According to the Grand Forks Herald, contractors also have to expand on the type of data that they provide in their pay practices.  Such data will include gender, race and ethnicity.

Data collected is not meant to target individuals.  This will help keep companies from partaking in discriminatory pay practices.

The rules will take effect January 1st, 2017.
