Severe Thunderstorm Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch in Central and Northern Minnesota for Thursday evening.

Counties that will be affected include Koochiching, Itasca, Cass, Crow Wing and Aitkin County. Cities include Walker, Grand Rapids, Backus, Pine River, Brainerd, Hill City, Aitkin, Big Fork and International Falls.

Thunderstorms will rapidly increase in coverage and intensity through 6 p.m.

Some of the storms could be strong or severe with large hail. Strong and gusty winds can be expected, with frequent lightning and heavy rainfall.

Authorities are alerting people to stay updated with the latest weather information and possible warning during the evening. If you have plans to go out to the lake, have a plan to get to safe shelter on shore quickly. If you are in a campground, stay away from trees.
