Park Rapids Woman Accused Of Assaulting, Threatening Boyfriend With Gun

A Park Rapids woman was arrested after her boyfriend accused her of assault, and threatened to shoot him with a gun.

Crystal Lynn Grant, 38, is charged with felony counts of possession of ammunition or firearm with conviction for crime of violence, second-degree assault with dangerous weapon, and theft. She is also charged with a gross misdemeanor of domestic assault.

According to the complaint, Sgt. Kruchowski was called to meet a person at the Sheriff’s office concerning an assault at around 3.55 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13. The man told authorities he was assaulted by Grant, his girlfriend of five months.

The man said he was in a car with Grant and they drove about one mile west of Park Rapids, then stopped on a gravel road.

Grant then pulled out a semi-automatic pistol, and struck him across the forehead and nose with the pistol. Grant then pointed the gun at him. The man then grabbed the gun turning it away from him, then the gun went off with a bullet going through the car’s windshield, the complaint stated.

He set the pistol down on the passenger’s floorboard and ran out towards a stand of trees when he heard two shots.

He stopped, turned back towards the vehicle and saw Grant standing by the vehicle yelling at him. He took 5 to 8 steps into the woods to hide from her, which she then drove away, the complaint stated.

The man told authorities he feared for his life. He had a cut on his forehead and nose and also a cut on his wrist from grabbing the pistol when it fired.

Deputies received information on Grants’s location and upon arrival they saw a vehicle which had a bullet hole in the windshield. Authorities made contact with Grant at her residence and questioned her about the pistol. Grant denied having a gun but admitted to being with her boyfriend.

Grant was then arrested and authorities requested her vehicle to be towed. Grant then told deputies “the gun is in the trunk, don’t tow the vehicle.”

Deputies asked the residence owner if he was missing any firearms and he said he had a .22 semi-automatic pistol that he kept in his nightstand which was gone. He saw it that morning but said it was stolen sometime after 8:00 a.m.

Officers are now seeking a search warrant for the vehicle. Grant refused to answer any questions and is currently being held in Crow Wing County jail.

If convicted, she could face up to 15 years in prison and/or a $30,000 fine for possession of firearm, 7 years in prison and/or a $14,000 fine for second-degree assault with a weapon, and 20 years and/or $100,000 fine for theft.

Grant has two prior felony convictions.
