UPDATED: One Man Killed, Two Injured in Thursday Night Car Accident in Itasca County

A Bovey man died Thursday night in a single-vehicle rollover in Itasca County near Goodland, Minn. A Bemidji man and a Cass Lake man were also injured in the accident.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Mark Wirtjes, 56, of Bovey, was traveling southbound on state Highway 65 around 11:37 p.m. when it went off the road and rolled. Wirtjes was ejected from the 2015 Ford LGT truck and pronounced dead at the scene.

Christopher Smith, 29, of Bemidji, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital in Hibbing. Michael Vail, 32, of Cass Lake, also sustained non-noncritical injuries and was taken to the hospital in Grand Rapids.

According to the report, it is not clear who was driving the vehicle; road conditions were wet near milepost 160. No other details were immediately available, the patrol said.
