More Zebra Mussels Found In Minnesota Lakes

The DNR has confirmed the presence of aquatic invasive species in two more Minnesota lakes.

According to a Monday press release, East Spirit Lake in Otter Tail County and Lake Osakis in central Minnesota have been found to contain zebra mussels.

On July 9, a person using East Spirit Lake for recreation brought a zebra mussel into the Fergus Falls DNR office.

Authorities investigated the claim and found a live zebra mussel about a quarter mile from where the first was reportedly found.

The DNR also followed up on a report of mussel larvae in Lake Osakis and found two of them after dive and shoreline searches on July 20.

Officials will post aquatic invasive species alert signs at water access points on these lakes. They will also work to figure out if connected waters should be added to the infested waters list.

Boaters are again reminded to clean their boats thoroughly in order to prevent the spread of AIS.
