MNsure Open Enrollment Period Begins

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The rush is on to cook up a plan to limit massive premium hikes for Minnesota residents in the individual health insurance market as open enrollment begins.

Gov. Mark Dayton was set to meet with Republican House Speaker Kurt Daudt on Tuesday to discuss potential health care fixes. Dayton had hoped to have a plan in place by Tuesday when open enrollment begins.

Both parties have sounded the alarm about premium hikes as high as 67 percent next year, but there are few signs the two sides agree.

Dayton has suggested a one-year rebate to offset the higher costs for residents who don’t qualify for federal subsidies. Republicans support the financial help but also want to see some changes to boost access to health care in rural Minnesota.
