Major League Fishing In Grand Rapids This Week, Hosts Meet-And-Greet

MLF 1Major League Fishing will continue its sixth season of filming as 30 top anglers compete in the 2017 Summit Cup in Grand Rapids this week from August 22 to 27.

There will also be a meet-and-greet with MLF reporter Aly Akers and crew at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, at Zorbaz on Pokegama Lake.

The television series features 30 of the top anglers in the country and includes Bassmaster Classic champions, Angler of the Year winners and title-holders from both the Bassmaster Elite Series and the FLW Tour. Anglers will compete across area lakes in five days of competition, all seeking to make it to the final day’s championship round. The show captures their efforts as they seek to catch as many fish as possible and weigh all the “scorable bass” they catch before immediately releasing the fish back into the water.

Visit Grand Rapids was the organization that brought Major League Fishing to Grand Rapids. As the tourism bureau, VGR helps coordinate activities and off hotel site events that are on-going throughout the tournament.

The Major League Fishing Cup series is preceded in the television season by the GEICO Selects, another six-day event where 24 anglers compete for a position in the Cup. The events filmed in Grand Rapids will begin airing in February 2017 on Outdoor Channel, America’s leader in outdoor television. This is Major League Fishing’s first time in its five-year history to fish in Minnesota, though the current one-day MLF record catch of 39 bass weighing 82 pounds, 7 ounces was caught in Northern waters just to the East in Michigan.

“We are excited to explore some of the outstanding fisheries in Grand Rapids, Minnesota with our anglers,” said MLF Commissioner Don Rucks. “Though many people know this area as walleye country, we think our anglers will have a lot of success on the lakes and will show viewers that this is also a great destination for bass fishing.”

Major League Fishing Cup anglers competing in Michigan are: Aaron Martens, Alton Jones, Andy Montgomery, Bobby Lane, Boyd Duckett , Brent Chapman, Brent Ehrler, Dean Rojas, Denny Brauer, Edwin Evers, Gary Klein, Greg Hackney, Ish Monroe, Jeff Kriet, Kelly Jordon, Kevin VanDam, Mark Davis, Mike Iaconelli, Mike McClelland, Shaw Grigsby, Skeet Reese, Takahiro Omori, Tim Horton, and Tommy Biffle. There are also six MLF Select anglers fishing who cannot be named so as not to reveal the results of previous competitions that have not yet aired on television.

“We expect some really great fishing from the diverse range of lakes we will be visiting in Minnesota,” Randy White, executive producer, said. “These Northern lakes produced our current record performance and this area works very will with the MLF format of fishing.”

The new season of Major League Fishing will begin airing the last week of December, 2017, on Outdoor Channel.

Zorbaz on Pokegama Lake is located at 32946 Crystal Springs Rd, Grand Rapids, MN. 55744.
