Hubbard County Man Arrested After Being Linked to Fatal Accident

On Friday 22-year-old Dakota Walsh, was arrested and arraigned Monday on felony criminal vehicular homicide charges in the crash that killed 19-year-old Avery Mikel of Park Rapids on July 23rd.

In a release from the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office it says they learned that after leaving a party, Walsh and Mikel were driving separate vehicles on 190th Street. “Walsh admittedly was driving his Chevrolet pickup in a reckless manner, when Mikel’s vehicle overturned, pinning Mikel underneath the vehicle.

Walsh stated that he had been racing Mikel earlier in the evening as they were on their way to a party. After leaving the party, Mikel was attempting to pass Walsh’s vehicle, when Walsh blocked him from doing so. Mikel then lost control of his vehicle and crashed.”

Walsh admitted to leaving the scene but had told officers that he turned around to check on Mikel, but then “freaked out” without calling law enforcement. Mikel’s body was discovered the next morning, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The release says that Walsh’s bail was set at $100,000.
