Herbicide Application Begins In The Bemidji Area

The Minnesota DNR will begin herbicide applications on select state lands to improve reforestation efforts.

The herbicide applications will begin July 15 and continue through Aug. 15 on two sites in the Bemidji Forestry Administrative Area.

The herbicides are needed to reduce competing vegetation and will be sprayed on the ground to help new tree seedlings grow.

Signs will be posted on all treated areas and adjacent landowners within a quarter mile of treated sites will be notified before treatment begins. The Minnesota DNR also says that no herbicides will be applied within a 100 feet of any body of water.

According to the Minnesota DNR, part of the reforestation process involves applying herbicides to harvested areas prior to or following tree planting.
