Growing Family Affair at Nevis vs. W-H-A Girls’ Basketball Game

A Walker-Hackensack-Akeley at Nevis girls’ basketball game is a big enough rivalry to be interesting without anything added. But there was much more than just a small town rivalry Thursday night. W-H-A head coach Jim Lien faced his son, Nevis head coach Mike Lien. Then, when the game finished, the Nevis basketball team performed a dance routine with Mike Lien’s girlfriend, Danielle Norby, at the center. The athletes divided, and their coach strolled across the court with engagement ring in hand. Lien dropped to one knee, popped the question, and Norby said “yes.”

W-H-A won the game 58-47, but Mike Lien took home the big prize. Nevis’ Jordyn Lucas led all first half scorers with 11 points. Nevis’ Hannah Bliss scored a game high 19 points. W-H-A’s Claire Longren and Kayla Schneider led the Wolves with 17 points each.
