Grand Rapids Bookstore To Expand

A Grand Rapids bookstore that was expected to close down after falling on hard times will instead end up growing.

The Village Bookstore, which is currently 73 years old, was purchased by the town’s Central Square Mall on July 1.

The mall will look to add more room to this bookstore, installing a larger section for children’s books and gift items. The new bookstore will be moved to a much larger space of over 1,900 square feet.

Central Square manager Jean Healy says the bookstore is a well-loved shop in the community. She did not want to see it close down after recently losing several other tenants.

She told Lakeland News on Tuesday that new lines of products will be on store shelves by the end of August. There is no timeline at this date for when the new location will open.

The store will now be called The Village Bookstore and Gifts.
