Common Ground: Explorer Dean Jacobs
Season 5, Episode 12
Explorer Dean Jacobs is on a mission to discover teachable moments from his adventures and share them with schoolchildren.
Jacobs came to the headwaters of the Mississippi at the start of his journey down the great river and Common Ground followed him as he viewed the Mississippi from the air and then set out on the river from Crow Wing State Park with his canoe.
Jacobs, who is also a photographer and a writer, talks about his own journey of self discovery that led him to leave a corporate career to follow his dream.
This episode premiered January 16th at 7PM on Lakeland Prime.
Dean is a one of a kind. It is cool to hear the story behind Dean. Now I would like to have them do another show that captures what Dean does to people when he actually shares his stories.
What an enjoyable piece on such an inspiring person. As a former Bemidjian, take my advice and invite him back as many times as possible. Your children will thank you. My kids always have this wondrous energy after Dean visits their school.
We had the pleasure of meeting Dean on the Semester at Sea Enrichment Voyage. His lectures were fun, educational and instilled a sense of personal growth and adventure in the listeners. His outgoing personality and experience, as both a world traveler and photographer, made him an invaluable asset to the shipboard community. We look forward to exploring and learning with Dean again.
In my fifteen years (and 40 some countries) of traveling, I’ve encountered all walks of life, characters, and creatures. Dean is among the most curious and passionate people I have met and dare to say will ever meet. He is an inspiration to us all. Looking forward to Three Rivers, and how it unfolds.
What a great piece about Dean and his passion for life and adventures! I have known Dean since high school and every time i listen to him talk he really inspires me and my attitude improves. He has a great outlook on life and loves to share it with people!
