Central Lakes College Instructor Passes Away

A beloved teacher at Central Lakes College passed away last week. Thurman Knight, 63, a communications instructor, died suddenly early Thursday.

According to a press release, Knight began teaching at Central Lakes College in August 2004 in the former speech department. According to Knight’s obituary, he taught for the Anoka Ramsey Community College and many Minnesota State colleges within the area since the late 80’s.

Knight was selected as the Faculty Member of the Year several times over the course of his tenure. He was known of his love for Harley Davidson and classic cars.

“His presence on campus was felt by all and he will be deeply missed.  Our thoughts are with Thurman’s family and friends during this difficult time,” said CLC President Dr. Hara Charlier.

Counselors are available on campus through next week to meet with students, staff, and faculty to talk about the loss.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 12, at 11 A-M, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 1979 Old Hudson Road in St. Paul, MN. Knight will be laid to rest at a later date at Fort Snelling Veteran’s Cemetery in a private ceremony.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Evelyn Bischoff, of Aulander, NC; his sisters Barbara Lies, of Aulander, NC, and Jean Nobles, of Chesapeake, VA; his half-sister Sharon Knight and his half-brothers Steve Knight, Eric Knight, and David Knight, of Bainbridge, GA; and his three children Timothy Knight, of Corona, CA, Jillian Knight, of Minneapolis, MN, and Ansel Shuster, of Minneapolis, MN, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews, according to his obituary.
