New Building Project

Lakeland Public Television Building for the Future

Lakeland Public Television has served the region for over 32 years from the same facility. Over that 32 year time span, the number of channels provided, the amount of local productions, and the size of staff to support these services has increased dramatically. LPTV’s growth in services, combined with television’s digital conversion and digital infrastructure has overloaded LPTV’s inadequate BSU facility in every way possible. In addition to not having enough physical space, inadequate HVAC and AC power issues have plagued LPTV in recent years. In July of 2011 alone, several major HVAC issues shut down critical equipment and took LPTV off the air on several occasions. Shut downs like this could very well take the station off the air indefinitely. It’s time for a new facility that will allow not just continued service the region, but increased service for citizens of northern and central Minnesota!

As you know, our original goal was to raise $5M for the LPTV Building for the Future campaign. Thanks to supporters like you and regional organizations, we have raised $4.5M at this point!

We’ve been working diligently behind the scenes – tweaking building plans, consulting with sustainable energy professionals, and gathering insight from other television stations who have recently completed projects such as ours – in order to best plan our new facility. Our building project will go out for public bid January 30, 2014 and we should know by the end of February how our cost projections match up with the actual bids. Our plan is to break ground this spring. We are excited!

Adding to this excitement, the Joe and Janice Lueken Family Foundation has come forward with a $125,000 matching grant at this crucial, home stretch of our fundraising. We will be approaching more businesses and foundation in hopes of matching these dollars so we don’t lose out on this amazing opportunity. If you would like to contribute again so your dollars go twice as far, that’s wonderful! If not, we completely understand and are incredibly grateful that you’ve already contributed!

We are excited to introduce you to the LPTV Building for the Future campaign that will result in an accessible, modern, public media facility to serve you, our public, better than ever before! Donate Now!
